These terms summarise how BBN works and what it is not.
What BBN is
BBN connects people who need blood with voluntary donors and lets verified hospitals request on behalf of patients. Requesting is free and needs no donor registration.
What BBN is not
- Not a blood bank and not a marketplace: no one may buy, sell or pay for blood through BBN.
- Not an emergency medical service: in an emergency, contact the hospital directly.
- Not a medical decision: matching a donor is not medical clearance. Eligibility, screening and transfusion decisions stay with qualified professionals.
- No guarantee that a donor will respond or that blood will be available.
Your responsibilities
- Give accurate information and keep requests up to date; cancel them when the need ends.
- Never ask for or offer payment, and never misuse another person's contact details.
- Report suspicious requests or conduct. Accounts that misuse BBN may be restricted.
